movie quotes

Here's a few quotes from Baxter as we spent some time watching movies.

During a preview for a movie rated R...

"You know why this movie's rated R don't you?" "No, why?" "Well, 'cause it's got Marky Mark in it, and that's an automatic R rating"

While watching Herbie fully loaded with the girls..

"If I'd have known Matt Dillon was in this thing, I'd sure have watched it a lot sooner"

aaahhhh...ha ha

Burning Answers

Thanks guys so much for all of your questions. I like this! And Baxter's going to weigh in this time as well... yay for us.

From Monica:
if you could have any super power in the world what would it be....and why?

My answer-the ability to fly. I think it would be cool to just take off whenever I felt like it.

Baxter's answer-Laser vision, so when I see a hot dog, and want a hot dog, I can instantly cook it. That, or a good lasagna, or maybe some french fries.

From Triss Teh:

What would you do for a Klondike bar?

My answer- not a whole lot right now. I'm shedding the weight accumulated by 9 years of marriage and three children. But in my gluttonous days, I'd ride down a mountain on a donkey, wearing a cape.

Baxter's Answer- (we can't agree on what's an appropriate answer. I feel his answer does not reflect the humor that should be intended, and he's stubborn so we'll skip this one.)

From wmz, but mostly z

I'm late in asking but...hmmmm...zane said I should ask you if you'd rather have the power to be invisible or make other ppl invisible? teeeheee.

my answer-I would most definitely want to be invisible. Why would I want to give others a chance to sneak up on me and freak me out? Zane, Zane, Zane, I'm a scaredy cat...

Baxter's answer-I want to be invisible, cause if you made somebody else invisible, how would you ever be able to make them not invisible? smells like a lawsuit to me.

From
Seanathan (a.k.a.)Sharl

If you could spend one whole day with any person anywhere you wanted to spend that day with; who would the person be, and where would you spend the day.

Baxter to Amy "you better well want to spend the freakin' day with me!"
Amy to Baxter "silence"

Thanks a lot Sean...

From Seanathan, Part Deux

If God asked you to tell him what you wanted for Him to give to you - what would it be? (1 Kings 3:5)

Amy's answer- this one's a pretty easy one. I would want to have His constant comfort. Never having to worry about anything because God is constantly comforting me. Although, maybe it should be that He would take my fears away, because God is there as a constant comfort... hmmm, but wisdom is good too...

Baxter's Answer-Solomon's wisdom, and then his money. j/k. just the money. j/k. just the wisdom.

And... how do you think Baxter would answer some of the previously asked quesions :P.

Baxter "I'm done answering questions. I'm going to bed, darlin'."

I'll try to get him to post once or twice about them. We'll see.

Thanks for the questions guys!

Politico

Am I someone who has studied politics as a science? By no means, but I have invested quite a bit of time trying to identify where I stand on the issues of today. As I sit here right now, I'm just disgusted. Where are the others like me? Why aren't we standing up and saying, "hey, this isn't what we ordered?". I look at the candidates and I see them doing nothing but strutting like those empty eyed models you might see on a catwalk. All the right moves are there, the strut, the turn, the posturing, but I'm left with a feeling that there's nothing below the surface. I'm tired of one story after another of the corrupt, the ambivalent, and the pompous. I know there are others like me. There have to be. They're probably much like me, wondering "what in the yamalama do I do about this?"

I'd be all for a reality show called "survivor, Capitol Hill". Every week, we'd call in like (much like American Idol) and vote them onto a far away island one at a time, until we could wipe the slate clean and start again. Thus, they could start their own inefficient government at their own expense. Maybe I'm on to something here...What do you think?

Answers to burning questions

Okay, my first installment of Answers...

From Kristen...

is there anything that you would prefer to see the girls do when they get older? (e.g. band, cheer, choir, ya know.) pick just one.

Of course, I would love for them to do something musical. It would be something I could help them with more easily. Plus, if they had to deal with "cheerleader issues" like I had to when I cheered, I would hate that for them. Band all the way, babe! However, I haven't really seen them showing signs of being interested in that. So far, I have an artist, a ballerina, and a comedian. But as a trite expression goes, "just so long as they're happy" is a pretty accurate description of how I feel. Good Question.

From Monica...

if you could be a donut, any kind of donut, what kind would you be and why??

As such a deep and philosophical question as this is, I had a hard time grappling with the calorie factor in the equation. Would I want to be something extremely fattening but wonderfully decadent as the eclair, or something simple and healthier like a cake donut? In the end, it was all about the surprise filling of the Jelly donut. I like to think of myself as having more than one layer. Thus, I am a grape jelly donut.

From Jaybrams

what would you tell your parents they should've done better?

Wow, this question kind of makes me squirm in my seat.
My parents did a great job raising me, I'm a reasonable, thoughtful, wonderful person. :) If I could give one piece of retrospective advice to them, it would probably be to wrap our christmas presents earlier. They would always be in their room feverishly wrapping our Christmas presents at 9:00 in the morning. Kristen and I had to wait 45 minutes in the living room to tear into those suckers. :)
And it's hard to believe, but they are even better grandparents than they were parents. They are ALWAYS there for us when we need them.
Thanks Jeremy for the opportunity to thank them.

You can keep the questions coming. I like this.

Breaking up the monotony

So, I'm finding it hard to blog about anything interesting, so I'd thought I'd give you guys a chance to ask me some questions, and I'll blog with the anwers. I have seen this done on some other blogs that I visit, so this is not my original idea. But I like it, so I will take it.

So, don't make me look like a loser with no readers. Throw some questions at me!

peace out.

decided

After votes, opinions, a lot of personal reflection, i've decided I'm going to write family comedy, nonfiction. A sort of no help/self help book. Now I just need to figure out where to start. It's a daunting process at best.

Should I write first, or find an agent/publisher? That is a terrifying thought. I should probably have something to show them first right?

I can do this...

Teens and tents, cont'd.

Here are some pictures from our weekend. I only took a few, because I'm lame, so we didn't get pictures of all the kids. We had fun. I hope they learned something. I think they did.

Surprise

I went to go get my makeup, and it was already being used.

Can I write a book?

I've timidly decided to write a book this summer. Just writing that down and looking at it scares the bejeezees out of me. But,if I don't announce it, there's no way I'll do it. I'm going to try and have it finished by the fall semester. Then I'll return to class (hopefully triumphant). So, I've compiled a poll for your opinion. Should I write (a.) fiction, or (b.)family humor. Those are really my only two options. Theres no way I'm writing anything informative...

And if anyone has any advice about the process, or experience in this, I'd love to hear it.

Okay, now you know.

Bye

teens and tents

Tomorrow, we're heading out into the wild with about 12 teenagers. Okay, not the wild. It's Tyler State park. But it might as well be the Ozark Mountains.
We're having our first ever Crossdirection retreat, aptly named "crossroads '08". I don't know if we're ready, but we're excited. If you know me, you know I'm not a particularly "outdoorsy" kind of girl. I prefer to lounge on a beach to enduring a weekend of roughing it, but I love these kids, and I'll do just about anything for this ministry... ha.

We've got newly signed recording artist Andy Lachance doing worship for us. It ought to be really good.

I'm just really excited about having these kids out of their element, and letting them just be...kids. My goal for this weekend is that they might come away from this weekend with an appreciation for their salvation, and knowing that they are loved, appreciated for who they are, and that they can appreciate each other, no matter their differences.

And here's my awesome worship guide graphic. I'll update everyone later on how it went. (the games are top secret, but let's just use the word "unforgettable")

Decision time

So, I just got my B for my speech class (that's quite an accomplishment considering I had pneumonia for the entire month of February) and now I'm wondering what's next? Continue with school? Take this summer and try to write a book? I already have a basic plot that I think is a winner...

What do I do?

I'm taking more classes, it's just a matter of when...

P.S. the class that I really need to take this summer is already closed..

does it still apply today?

This resonates with me...I wish we still had leaders like this.

Inspired Art

This past weekend, I had the opportunity to go to Eureeka Springs, AR with some fun women from my church to go see the Passion Play. There were other things to see there, including an art museum. That was my favorite part, I think. I found an artist named Jack Dawson. His paintings are so unique. He uses hidden images within his paintings to make you really analyze them and apply it to what the Bible says. Here's one titled "If My People".

Photobucket

there are people praying, images of hope, neglect, evil, war, the twin towers are in there, and of course you can see who's actually mending the flag. It's probably a lot more impressive in person ( I saw the original) but I just had to share. Here's the key, see if you can find any of these things.

Photobucket

a symphony with no music

I decided to forego the gym the other night and take a run on the trail near our house instead. I notice that it's sprinkling lightly as I take off down the road, but it had been doing that all day so I wasn't too worried. I had my little headphones/am radio in hand, and I was ready to make myself sweat. About 10 minutes into it, I drop my radio and the batteries go dead. I get bored really easily so, I consider heading back for more batteries, but the words "be still" echo over and over again in my head. I keep running. It's so quiet and there's no one else around. I immediately just get the urge to worship in silence as I run. Everything else gets tuned out. Except, I can hear myself breathing heavily as I chug through along the trail. I can also smell the wet ground (I love that smell). The rain starts to fall harder, piling on my eyelashes and bangs. I reach the wooded area, and the rain starts falling hard. I can hear it pounding the leaves on the trees, but I wasn't getting all that wet. This makes me of course makes me wonder what's going on. I realize then that the trees are protecting me from getting soaked. I start applying it to my life and realize that when there's rain all around us, we do get wet, and feel the sprinkles, but somehow we are protected. There's always something sheltering me from the raw, harshness of the world. I know God allows a little rain to fall on me now and then, and I can hear it all around me, but be cradled under His protection and get through until the sun comes out again.

No, it wasn't lightning or it might have been a different kind of story altogether. :)
